This performance is part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an annual global concert affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and our shared humanity. World Music Days is inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, who would have celebrated his birthday on October 10th.

Today we join people around the world in a tribute to all the visionary men and women who use the power of music to lift peoples of different backgrounds and beliefs above the differences that set us apart. Through our music, we reaffirm our conviction that humanity will triumph and harmony will prevail.

Gottfried Finger (ca. 1660–1730) had an active career as an opera composer in England before he worked for a series of courts

His music is a synthesis of Purcell’s harmonies and folk idioms from his native Moravia, and he excelled at writing chamber music for clarino, the valveless, baroque trumpet that is the centerpiece of this ensemble.

Fanfare Consort’s excellent new disc should appeal to anyone with a taste for a mellow, lyrical, refined approach to this distinctive repertory.”

~ Fanfare Magazine, Sept/Oct 2006

I’m a sucker for trumpet recordings. Thomas Freas’ The Intimate Sonate brought many fond memories of my favorite trumpet recordings while providing thrills in the present tense.”

~ Early Music America Magazine, Fall 2006

“Thom Freas combines a dark and full baroque trumpet sound with smooth, lyrical phrasing that brings to mind Armando Ghitalla . . . The strings and the harpsichord also tend towards the dark and mellow in their sound and approach, creating a unified ensemble with a gentle baroque style which is surprisingly relaxing to listen to.”

"If you’re tired of the same old baroque concerto grossi, try these . . . The combination of attractive music, clever juxtaposition of composers, and surprisingly varied timbres from the instruments, gives the CD an appealing freshness."
